Browser and OS Statistics for October

I’d like to share some interesting statistics with my readers, I know it’s not quite the end of the month, but after more than 220,000 page views from nearly 170,000 visitors, it’s pretty safe to say these numbers wont budge too much in the next few days, unless there is some freak super explosion of diggs, stumbles, deliciousness, reddits and maybe a slashdot or two.

The most intersting statistic to me, is the fact that damn near 80% of all visitors are using Firefox.  This includes all operating systems, which is pretty significant when you compare that to how many users are utilizing Windows.  This site attracts very technical readers, which would explain the awesome google-fu that some people are using to find this site.

I wish I had more IE users visiting to convert to Firefox…

    I use Google Analytics, it’s really terrific.

    In my experience, the best way to get rid of IE is to make someone use Firefox for a few days. People quickly see the superiority when they actually use it.

    Well to be fair, I have browsed the site from work and we’re locked down to IE 6.

    But..you have to have firefox to have stumbleupon.

  6. Jack says:

    @requirednamezomgoneone!11 : IE has a stumble plug in now. Del.icio.us is still ours alone though.

    I wonder how much of the IE traffic is really just firefox/konqueror etc. using altered user agent strings

    very interesting how so much of your traffic is coming from windows users, when your blog is so geared towards linux.

    Firefox is my preference for home. I, unfortunately, am at work and our PC’s Group Policy blocks installation of any “unauthorized” software such as Firefox. Just food for thought… Some of those 9%
    IE visitors (such as me) are surfing on a controlled surfboard.

  12. PredatoryFern says:

    @ Derek: Pssst, unless they have a GPO blocking execution of unauthorized software from a remote or your local hard drive, they can’t stop you from using Portable Firefox.

    Altered user agent string ++

    I’ve had banking sites tell me I didn’t have good enough software to view them, ’cause I was using FF2 on Ubuntu.

    I lie to those that discriminate, but I do make an effort to switch my user agent back quickly, you know, to represent my brothers in stats like these.
